Tim Bathgate

Tim Bathgate | Associate

Tim grew up on a sheep and beef farm on the Strath Taieri. He has always had a strong interest in the rural sector and this has been fanned by stints working on sheep and beef, dairy and arable properties during his student days.

Since joining the Shand Thomson team, Tim has worked with Bill Thomson and Jeff Seymour and increasingly with Jim Johnstone on the Clutha District Sheep & Beef Statistics and the internal benchmarking we do for dairy farmers.

With a degree from Lincoln University (Farm Management/Rural Valuation) Agri is very much Tim's home base and he particularly enjoys working with farmers, foresters and the industries that support them. He has interests in advisory, taxation and business planning and as a certified trainer in Farm Focus, Xero and Figured can also help clients put in place the recording systems that work best for them.

Tim spent three years at Lincoln and rounded this out with study at the University of Otago where he completed a Graduate Diploma in Accountancy. He went on to successfully navigate the CA programme with CAANZ and is a fully fledged CA.

Several Young Enterprise Groups at South Otago High School have benefited from Tim's mentorship and he has been involved with both RMPP and Young Farmers groups. He's often an ambassador for the firm at Otago and Southland events celebrating excellence in the agri sector.

Skiing in the winter and biking or tramping in the summer are Tim's favourite outdoor pursuits and his other passion is music. He is an accomplished piano and guitar player.
