Born in Mosgiel, raised and schooled in Dunedin, Jeff completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree at Otago University while working part-time. He joined Shand Thomson in 1983 after working for a large Dunedin accounting practice over a period of nine years.
Jeff became a partner of the practice in 1985. He has many years experience in all fields of business advice and has a wide range of clients, including many in the forestry, farming and transport sectors. He is particularly knowledgeable regarding employment issues.
Jeff is married to Kerry and they have three adult children, John, Stephanie and Michael. When they can, they enjoy family holidays in Wanaka. Jeff enjoys many sports, the outdoors and has been prepared to give most things a go. His recreational highlights include completing the Sydney Marathon in 2000 and, with Bill Thomson, climbing to the summit of Mt Aspiring on 7th February 1997.
Jeff and Kerry have previously been involved through their children in numerous community activities including the St Joseph's School board of trustees, sports coaching and support. Jeff's latest community service is as the Chair of the Clutha Recreation Center. He is a past councillor, completing three terms, of the Clutha District Council.
