Bill Thomson

Bill Thomson | Consultant

A long time resident of Balclutha, Bill was educated in Balclutha and completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Otago University. He worked at a Dunedin practice and in London before joining Shand Thomson in 1975. 


Bill became a partner of the practice in 1978 and chaired the practice from 2007 to 2014. He has wide experience in business advisory services, and an interest in family succession planning, asset protection and the governance of family trusts.


Bill is particularly interested in fostering and supporting business in the Clutha District. He was a founding director of the Clutha District Chamber of Commerce, and founding Chairman of the Enterprise Clutha Trust, now the Clutha Development Trust.


Bill became a Justice of the Peace in 1999 and is the past Chair of the The Otago Community Trust. Bill's long history in community service has been recognised by the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2007 when he was made a Fellow of the Institute.


Jude and Bill have two adult children. Jude is a trained teacher, with a special interest in tutoring international students, and enjoys her golf. Bill enjoys travel, skiiing, biking and being a Granddad! He also has a keen interest in music. 

 

Through his children, Bill became involved with the board of trustees for the Rosebank Primary School and South Otago High School and was a founding trustee of Heartland Otago/Southland Life Education Trust


Bill now resides in Wanaka but his is in Balclutha regularly in his capacity as Chairman of both Clutha Health First and the Clutha Community Foundation. He was a major force behind the startup of the Foundation with a vision to see our district served by a significant fund providing benefits for our community into perpetuity.

Fellowship Award
