A lifetime resident of Balclutha, Bill was educated in Balclutha and completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Otago University. He worked at a Dunedin practice and in London before joining Shand Thomson in 1975.
Bill became a partner of the practice in 1978 and has chaired the practice since 2007. He has wide experience in business advisory services, and a special interest in family succession planning and utilising family trusts to achieve asset protection.
Bill is particularly interested in fostering and supporting business in the Clutha District. He was a founding director of the Clutha District Chamber of Commerce, and founding Chairman of the Enterprise Clutha Trust.
Bill became a Justice of the Peace in 1999 and is the past Chair of The Otago Community Trust. Bill's long history in community service has been recognised by the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountant's in 2007 when he was made a Fellow of the Institute.
Jude and Bill have two adult children. Jude is a part time teacher, with a special interest in working with international students, and enjoys her golf. When time permits Bill enjoys tramping, skiing and motorcycling. He also has a keen interest in music.
Through his children, Bill became involved with the board of trustees for the Rosebank Primary School and South Otago High School. He has continued his interest in education governance to his current role as a founding trustee of the Heartland Otago/Southland Life Education Trust.
