Originally from Mosgiel, Brian completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree at Otago University. Brian worked for two Dunedin accounting practices before moving to Balclutha to join Shand Thomson in 1971.
Brian became a partner of the practice in 1973 and retired from the partnership in March 2007, however he continues to act as a consultant. He has many years experience in all fields of business advice and also has specialist sector knowledge in the health, forestry and governance fields.
Formerly a long term member and chairman of the South Otago High School Board of Trustees, Brian is currently chairman of Clutha Health First and since 1991 has been committed to the retention and development of local health services. He was made a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2000 for his considerable contribution to local health and education organisations.
Brian is married to Pauline and they have three married adult children, Kathryn, Chris and Leanne and three grandchildren. The family shares an interest in outdoor activities, music and the arts. They have been actively involved in many sports with Pauline coaching high school and representative netball teams. Brian is actively involved with the Balclutha Presbyterian Parish, and acts as treasurer.
